Position Overview

The Systems Engineer plays a key role in the deployment, configuration, and support of enterprise infrastructure across data centers, cloud environments, and remote sites. This position focuses on implementing and maintaining cost-effective virtualized, cloud, and network infrastructures, including server builds, VDI provisioning, cloud services, data protection, and retention.

Working closely with the Systems Engineering Manager and cross-functional teams, this role ensures that all systems align with business goals and adhere to organizational standards, policies, and best practices.

This position requires strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills and the ability to work effectively with users at all technical levels. The Systems Engineer must also be available for on-call rotations and occasional after-hours maintenance or upgrades.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Management (90%)

  • Design, test, and deploy virtualization and infrastructure initiatives in collaboration with other engineers and leadership.
  • Ensure high availability across on-prem, cloud, and hybrid environments.
  • Maintain oversight of regional office systems and infrastructure health.
  • Build and configure servers and cloud solutions per vendor specifications and best practices.
  • Manage enterprise-level applications, including installation, configuration, and administration.
  • Monitor and maintain servers, storage, network equipment, and cloud resources for performance, reliability, and security.
  • Manage and validate data backup, recovery, and replication strategies to ensure business continuity.
  • Collaborate with vendors and partners for technical support and issue resolution.
  • Analyze performance data and recommend system improvements and scalability solutions.
  • Oversee OS installations, upgrades, and security patching.
  • Maintain current, accurate documentation for all supported systems.
  • Support system hardware, software, and troubleshooting needs.
  • Research emerging technologies and propose solutions to enhance performance or efficiency.
  • Participate in IT projects and special initiatives as assigned.

Customer & Vendor Support (10%)

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with external vendors and internal support teams.
  • Contribute to cross-departmental technology initiatives and system upgrades.
  • Document technical procedures and resolutions for efficient issue management.
  • Provide professional, timely support to end users.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements

Required:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; or 5+ years of equivalent IT experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in system administration or engineering roles.
  • Recent (within the last 3 years) experience managing the Microsoft 365 suite, including:
    • Teams
    • Exchange Online
    • Intune
    • Office 365 Apps for Enterprise
    • Entra ID (Azure AD)
    • Enterprise Applications and Application Proxies
  • Administrative or engineering experience in at least six of the following technical areas (within the last 3 years):
    • Microsoft Active Directory & Group Policy
    • Microsoft File Servers / DFS
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2016 or newer
    • Microsoft Exchange Server 2019/SE
    • VMware vSphere Foundation Suite
    • Omnissa Horizon (formerly VMware Horizon)
    • Commvault Backup and Recovery
    • Rack server solutions from Dell, HPE, or equivalent vendors
    • Fibre Channel SANs (HPE, Pure, IBM, or similar)
    • Fibre Channel switch administration (Brocade or equivalent)
    • SolarWinds administration
    • Data center operations, including hardware installation, power, cooling, and cabling best practices
    • Zerto Disaster Recovery
    • 10Zig Thin Clients

Preferred:

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure deployment and management.
  • Familiarity with VMware and Omnissa product portfolios.
  • Prior work experience in a legal or professional services environment.
